A recent artist you discovered? I have two; Nick Chou 周湯豪 and Alfred Hui 許廷鏗; I've heard of both of them before but didn't take much notice of them until very recently.
I first heard of Alfred when I was in HK, and he was on TV but never really thought much about him? Then I received requests for his songs :) And Cream has recommended I listen to his album '出走三部曲' of which I really like the songs: 螞蟻、出走 and 定格.. I think his voice has lots of potential in the future, I really like his high notes :D My ultimate favourite would be 螞蟻 despite hating them in real life D: Thanks Cream ^^
I only noticed Nick recently while watching a drama called 粉愛粉愛你 where a lot of the songs in his new album were used as insert songs. I looked him up and found out that all the songs in his new album were written (both musically and lyrically) and sung by him! In his album 'S.N.G' (which stands for Super Nice Girl) my favourite songs would be: 黑洞、億萬分之一的機率 :) Oh yeah, I also really like his song 'Wake Up' from his old album ^^ That's probably my favourite song of his atm :D
Erm.. I probably should've put 'Love Hero' here? But another album I can still listen to is 'Loving You More and More 越來越愛' by Fahrenheit :) Released in January 2009.
I think I still know every song off by heart, all the lyrics and everything :) I can probably tell you who sings each line as well XD That's how much I like this album ^^ My favourite song would be.. 默默, but closely followed by 動脈 because I'm an MIT fan ;D Asdfghj.. I don't know what else to say about this album, but erm.. if you haven't listened to it before, give it a try? (Not everyone like 'boybands' but.. yeah, just a warning!)

Second Round 第二人生 by Mayday 五月天 ^^ released in December 2011, it's themed around 2012 being the end of the world. Another wonderful album by Mayday! I really wanted to go to their UK concert earlier this year in March, but it was during my mock period D:
I love the song 乾杯 ('Cheers') where the lyrics describe the life of a person (and the MV too!) and.. I just really like the lyrics :) One of the songs, 洗衣機 (Washing Machine), surprised me when I read the tracklist because I wouldn't have imagined someone writing a song about a washing machine.. However, the melody is really sweet and catchy.
There are two main versions of this album where the songs are slightly different I think. The song OAOA has different lyrics depending on whether it is the 'No Where 末日' version of the album or the 'Now Here 明日' version... Just have a compare of the tracklist if you're interested -lazy- XD
Other notable albums this year include: JJ Lin's Lost N' Found 學不會, Alien Huang's Break Heart Black Heart 黑心傷品, Kimberley Chen's Debut Album, Show Luo's 9ood Show, Nick Chou's S.N.G.. among others, but yeah.. all my biases are above XD
Without doubt, my favourite album is 'Love Hero 愛&英雄' by Alien Huang 黃鴻升 ^-^ Released in December 2009, I still listen to it frequently over two years later in 2012 and I can't say that about any other album I've listened to.. :)
The songs all have a distinctive rock feel to them (different to his more recent ballad style music) and just seem really.. 小鬼-like ^^ (bias seeping out XD). I used to like '搞砸了' and ‘我不想長生不老’ most, but I think I like ‘為自己’ more now ^^ The only song I tend to skip is '懶得理你'.. :/

Just a short thoughts post on their new album (after around 2 years!!)
I won't compare JPM and Lollipop-F because to me, they're both from bang bang tang and you can tell how hard they're all trying! JPM have practised very hard to be able to sing and dance together well :) And I'm very pleased with their new album ^__^
When they released the single 月球漫步, I was a bit reluctant to accept the electric-dance style music since I'm not a fan of using autotune >< And moreover, the title sounded like they were trying to copy michael jackson... but after 'studying' the lyrics and watching interviews of them talking about this song, I began to like it more :)
I love their solo songs ^__^ I think it's great they all got a chance to 'show themselves off' - what i mean by that is, show what they themselves are good at! Being a Mao Di bias I like his the most XD But actually, I think Jay sings the best~~~
I have this new appreciation for Jay now, I especially like his rapping part in 那不是雪中紅 ^^ The MV for that song is probably my favourite so far :) The dance is 'pretty' hahaa~~
Most of all, I'm so happy that they sang a cantonese version for 因為有你 because.. though their cantonese isn't the best~ and cantonese songs are more choppy than mandarin ones.. but being cantonese myself and seeing less and less people singing in the language saddens me. To hear a boyband from Taiwan singing in a language they don't actually speak~~ ^__^
Also worth mentioning is that all the members wrote lyrics to various songs on the album ^^ I think Wang Zi wrote the most :)
